Event description
An introduction to botany for foragers, herbalists, permaculturalists, bushcrafters and anyone else interested in the uses of plants.

About this Event

This one day course will give you a solid foundation in the fundamentals of field botany, which you can build on to identify new plants as you come across them. It will focus on 'useful' wild plants of the UK - species that can be eaten, imbibed as medicine, used in gardening and made into materials.

By beginning with the use of plants and focusing on hands on forms of identification we provide an accessible and memorable way in to the technical language and methods of field botany. The course takes place in the Education Centre of Hampstead Heath and will combine presentations with practical sessions identifying plants in and out of the classroom with Jason and Kim.

Timetable

The course will last 6 hours, covering:

10 – 11: Introducing Botany – Classification, names, field tools and methods

11-12.30: Plant Parts – Basic morphology and practical ID using common species

12.30-1.30: Lunch & discussion

1.30-4.30: Hands on workshops getting to know the main plant families
