Breath control is essential in all martial arts. Not just in the timing of strikes and blocking, but to improve fitness and remain clear and calm under pressure. This class is designed to intertwine these ancient practises (martial arts and breathwork) to leave you better prepared for whatever life throws at you aaaaaand to have a bit of fun whilst doing it. Life can be serious and stressful and blah blah blah and sometimes you just need to throw a punch and have a good deep breathe.
Meet the trainers - Bode and Danny
Sup people I'm Bode and I'll be leading the boxing. Being both a fighter and a trainer, I plan to guide the class through simple padwork, footwork, and how we can use our breathing to time striking, regain control and sharpen focus in instances we're flustered. We can use breathwork override our fear or fight or flight responses, which is an extremely powerful thing to learn (think being mugged or just regaining your composure under pressure at work). Expect to move a lot, learn how to tune your body to your breathing, and sweat like a mthr fkr.
Yes people, I'm Danny aka the breathwork:breddah. I teach breathwork in studios and at events across London - I also spent 10 years practising marital arts, attaining a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and winning the British Tae Kwon Do Championship. Having seen first hand the importance of proper breath training in fighting and the power of Conscious Connected Breathwork I cannot wait to run this event with Bode!
A note on the breathwork. CCB is like hitting the factory reset on your tamagotchi. Deep, rhythmic breathing allows your conscious mind to take a wander, providing the space for your subconscious to go and explore. This can look like entering dream-like states of creativity, processing emotions you've been burying, or just coming away with an overwhelming sense of bliss and feeling a much deeper sense of connection to yourself and those around you. In truth it's kind of a hard experience to put into words. If anyone can write this description better than this post having experienced it please drop me a note x
