Brackenhurst Hall Gardens Talk & Tour

Join Nottinghamshire Gardens Trust for this exclusive talk and tour of the beautiful Arts and Crafts Gardens at Brackenhurst Hall, designed by William Clarke.

Our visit will begin with an introductory talk about William Clarke’s Arts and Crafts Gardens at Brackenhurst Hall by Julia Davies, formerly Head of Animal and Environmental Sciences at Nottingham Trent University.

Following the talks, Julia will lead us on a tour of the gardens, where most of the original features from the early twentieth century remain intact.

There may be an opportunity for brief refreshment at the Orangery Cafe before we then head across nearby fields with glorious views of Brackenhurst Park and Hall as well as Southwell Minster. We will continue towards Southwell through Harvey's Field and Bishop's Palace Gardens. The walk will also pass through Potwell Dyke Grasslands, the last remaining remnants of the Archbishop of York’s deer park and hunting ground.

There is an excellent choice of places to pause and enjoy refreshments along the way, including the Minster Refectory.

The entire walk is an approximately 4 mile circular route, and will take up to 2.5 hours. It is approximately 2 miles from Brackenhurst to Southwell Minster, there is an option to take a bus back to Brackenhurst or dwell in the historic town of Southwell for the afternoon. Please wear appropriate footwear for trails and dress in the expectation of all kinds of weather!
