Event Information

Event description
Safe Online FREE SESSIONS FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS Safe Online is a workshop which explores false news and online propaganda.

About this event

Safe Online

This session has been designed by the Peace Museum to explore the dangers posed by online grooming and radicalisation.

The assembly will:

  • Build awareness around strategies used by perpetrators
  • Raise understanding of techniques used to radicalise young people
  • Reduce vulnerability to manipulative content
  • Recognise the signs of someone who may be succumbing to grooming
  • Give practical guidance on what to do if presented by malicious content
  • Signpost further support for those who may need it

Using real life case studies, the session will explore how seemingly innocent online relationships can be a cover for more sinister motives through a range of media including Facebook, online gaming, texting and dating apps.

Delivered in your school or group context by an experienced facilitator, the session can be delivered to entire year groups or smaller groups. Sessions last 60 mins (flexible depending on your time constraints)

Safe Online has been developed in partnership with the Bradford Prevent Team.

The Peace Museum has delivered Prevent work to thousands of young people, supporting schools, families and communities to work together to protect young people from harm.

Their innovative Choices project has been identified as a model of Best Practice by the Prevent team at the Home Office and is now being rolled out across the UK.

The Peace Museum is delighted to be able to offer schools and groups free workshops.

How many sessions can I book?

Schools are entitled to one full day of delivery.

Ideally, we aim to deliver to one whole year group across the day.

Which groups should attend?

Sessions are designed for Year 7 to Year 11. This is left to the schools' discretion.

How many can be in a group?

Each session is designed to accommodate one class size. This is flexible depending on your needs.

What times will you deliver the sessions?

Times are flexible to accommodate your timing needs.

What space would you require?

A classroom space with an interactive whiteboard is ideal, but we can deliver in other spaces if there is access to a projection screen.

Do I need to provide anything else?

A car parking space for our deliverer will be required. A group supervisor or teacher in charge of group supervision must be provided.

Are you DBS checked?

The Session leader, Jude Wright, has full current DBS check. Information will be sent out as to how to access this information via the government's portable DBS scheme with confirmation of booking.
