Event description

Description

A tour of the cemetery at 10am on the 3rd August will reveal some of Bradford’s bravest men in history who were awarded the Victoria Cross. Matthew Hughes was one of the first men to be given this award by Queen Victoria who leaned down from her horse and pinned it to his chest. He risked his life to save his comrades during the Crimean War where many also died from neglect and disease. This was the war when many men rode to their death during the charge of Light Brigade and Florence Nightingale tended to the sick and injured soldiers.
