Description

Brain Power

Wednesday 22 November 6:00 to 8:30 pm

Great Hall, University of Leeds

The University of Leeds is pleased to invite you to ‘’Brain Power”, an evening event that demonstrates how our most complex organ copes under stress and can help motivate and take us to new levels of mental and physical resilience.

Terry Waite was held captive in Lebanon for almost five years. With no contact with the outside world and no access to books and papers, his inspirational story is one of endurance in extreme adversity.

Join him, Richard Morris, professor of Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh and Professor Trevor Jones to hear how research sheds light on the brain’s ability to motivate us beyond what we may have thought were our own limits – and hear how our understanding continues to advance.

The event is hosted by Dr Mary Baker, Past President of the European Brain Council and Leeds alumna, and chaired by Trevor Jones, former Head of R&D at the Wellcome Foundation. Professor Lisa Roberts will also give a brief outline of some of the pioneering research taking place at the University.

5:30 pm Welcome, refreshments on arrival, Parkinson Court

6:30 pm Introduction to the evening, followed by talks and Q&A (Great Hall)

8:15 pm Networking reception, including displays of some of the University’s research

9:00 pm Event closes
