Event description

Description

BRAKES is a Rock ‘n’ Roll romantic comedy. The perfect anti-date movie. Written and directed by first-time director Mercedes Grower.

BRAKES has stellar performances from some of Britain's top comedy and dramatic acting talent reuniting Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Paul McGann (Withnail & I), Julia Davis (Nighty Night), Kerry Fox (Shallow Grave), Steve Oram (Sightseers) Roland Gift (The Fine Young Cannibals) and Peter Wight (Babel, Atonement).

BRAKES is a raw dark comedy about endings and beginnings. A failed relationship is rarely predicted but always reviewed, and the film adopts this reverse narrative.

Split into two halves, the film follows the tumultuous stories of nine couples. It plunges straight into the brutal and absurd endings of their relationships, and then travels back in time to the moment when the spark of love between them first emerged. Using London as their matchmaker, each of their stories is unique, yet familiar to us all. Nine interpersonal disasters, celebrating the blind leap into the ‘cult of two’.

We are hoping to welcome director Mercedes Grower for a post screening Q&A.
