Event description

Description

The presentation describes the process we went through to mitigate the risks of operating the aircraft from Old Warden aerodrome for the first time. The aircraft lands at a relatively high speed and the pilot’s field of view from the cockpit is very poor when landing. When the aircraft was in service in the 1980’s it was operated from large airfields with hard surface smooth runways at least 1800m in length. Old Warden is a grass aerodrome where the runways are not smooth and only about half the length previously used. The aircraft has poor handling qualities are low speed and this combined with the restricted aerodrome brought additional operating hazards which had to be addressed to protect the aircraft.
