Why Don’t They Do as I Tell Them? Why Don’t I Do What I Tell Myself?
HR professionals are constantly called on to advise. That advice is often ignored, no matter how often we repeat it. As individuals we often make promises to ourselves about changing our behaviours and then fail to deliver on those internal promises. Why is this? What can we do to help both our customers and ourselves achieve better outcomes?
In this session, Dr Carole Pemberton will explore what we know about why people don’t do the things they are told to do, or the things which their cognitive self tells them it makes sense to do. She will also draw on her own work on resilience and the key factors which support people in sticking at desired outcomes.
She will look at the findings of research on the resistance of humans to change and ways in which it can be overcome. She will help you consider not only how you can better support your customers, but also how each of us can increase the likelihood of successfully making changes happen.
You will leave the session with ideas to take back into your workplace and into your own life.
