Event Details

Following on from last year's CIPD Northamptonshire branch conference on performance management our theme for this year is attracting and retaining talent.  We will again explore current best practice through a series of local case studies and we will also look at how the best organisations manage to recruit and retain talent in the current challenging market conditions.

Our opening session will be led by Darius Matusiak who is the Director of Macildowie’s HR Division. He prides himself on the quality of service and the strength of the long term relationships he has developed amongst a customer base that includes some of the countries biggest household names.  Darius’ presentation will give an insight into how to attract and retain talent in an increasingly competitive and candidate driven market, the importance of people development and how investing in your culture can give you a competitive advantage. 

Our case studies will then by led by:

  • Somayeh Aghnia, Managing Director of Geeks Ltd

Geeks Ltd develop bespoke software solutions to a range of iconic brands and organisations. As winners of the Queens Awards for Enterprise: Innovation 2014 the company has continued to grow and thrive in a highly competitive market. Their people are described as vibrant, curious, technical and creative.  Somayeh will be telling how Geeks meet their challenges to attract and retain the very best employees so they can continue to deliver the very best to their clients. Their approach to people management is innovative and Somayeh will be sharing the lessons learned as well as successes achieved. 

  • Mike Walker, Managing Director at 4see

4see is an innovative compliance consultancy, providing support in key areas such as asbestos management, health & safety and water hygiene management throughout the UK and the Middle East. Based near Towcester, they work with corporate clients across the retail, property and construction sectors as well as with small and medium sized businesses.  Mike will be telling the story of how 4see overcome their challenges to attract and retain the very best talent. As winners of the Employer of the Year category at the recent Northamptonshire SME Awards, Mike will be sharing what 4see do to make sure they stay at the top of their game. 

  • James Loach, Transport Manager at Clipper Logistics Group

James joined the Clipper in June 2016 as Transport Manager to start up the implementation of the DICE operation providing customer orders for John Lewis to their Waitrose and John Lewis stores along with other retailers. This was a new business venture for Clipper which had to demonstrate how Clipper has ‘Agility matched by Ability’ for a major retailer customer. James will talk about how he had to attract and recruit drivers and transport clerical and management staff in a highly competitive / low unemployment sector and what he did differently to ensure he had the right colleagues working for Clipper.


The event will be held at the newly refurbished Buckingham Suite at the Park Inn and will include an exhibition area.

Registration will take place at 13:30 when refreshments will be available; the event will then run from 14:00 to 17:00

Places can be cancelled up to 1 week before the event, after that the payment is non-refundable.

CIPD Northamptonshire Branch

The CIPD Northamptonshire branch provides opportunities for its 1300 members to network with local HR and L& D professionals, to continue with their professional development and remain up to date with HR issues. There is an active programme of events through the year and you can find details of the upcoming events listed below. Unless otherwise stated branch events are free for CIPD members to attend, and there is a non-member fee of £12 which must be paid online when booking.

Northamptonshire branch is part of the CIPD Midlands Area Partnership (MAP) which holds an Annual Midlands Event in October.  The 2017 event will take place on Saturday 14 October at Chesford Grange Hotel in Warwickshire.  MAP is also organising a Midlands Student Conference Empowering the Future Leaders of HR on Saturday 11 March at Aston University.   You can find out more about both events on the MAP events website.
