About this event

J oin us on the village green outside the village shop for an easy paced ninety minute (two mile) guided walk around Brasted when we'll talk about the village's long and diverse history from Saxon to modern times looking at the site of the old manor house, the village lock up, village air raid shelter, railway station, swimming pool and much more.

W hile we're walking round, you'll also hear about some of Brasted's more famous residents from the distant and recent past including John Saltmarsh, later chaplain to Cromwell's New Model Army; Dr John Turton, physician to George III and Queen Charlotte; Prince Louis-Napoleon, later Napoleon III of France; William Tipping, Brasted's great Victorian philanthropist; Laura Ashley, fashion designer and businesswoman; and Lord Nolan, author of the Nolan Principles and the Nolan Report.

T he route is fairly level with only one short hill (Brasted Hill Road), mostly along quiet roads but including some paths that may be muddy.

If there are any children on the walk, I can add some horrible histories - tales of drowning, being crushed to death, being boiled alive, not the usual local history - to spice up the morning!

We will finish the walk at Brasted Village Hall when there will be an opportunity to visit the Brasted Heritage Centre to see some of the hundreds of pictures, artefacts and documents from Brasted's past.

All proceeds from the walk go to the St Martin's Brasted Heritage Trust, a registered charity, supporting the local church.

More dates may be added if there is enough demand so, if you don't see a date in the schedule that you can make, please follow us to be notified of any new dates.
