A Welsh cancer charity is appealing for fundraisers to take to the skies this October as part of ‘Brave It For Breast Cancer’ for breast cancer awareness month.
Cancer Research Wales is offering supporters the chance to take part in a once-in-lifetime skydive for free, and help raise vital funds for its world-class cancer research projects taking place here in Wales.
The skydives take place in Swansea and Whitchurch, Shropshire, where brave fundraisers will first ride up to 12,000ft, and then freefall at 120mph for around a minute, before gracefully gliding down to earth under a parachute and taking in the stunning scenery.
In return, supporters are asked to raise a minimum amount in sponsorship of £395. This covers the cost of the jump, as well as supporting Cancer Research Wales with its vital work in the fight against breast cancer. Cancer Research Wales aims to reduce the impact of cancer on the people of Wales through supporting world class cancer research and education to improve the use of existing treatments, reduce the risk of metastasis and understand why some people develop resistance to current treatments.
Cancer Research Wales is an independent charity, based at Velindre Hospital in Cardiff, currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. All money raised in Wales stays in Wales.
Cancer Research Wales fundraiser Hannah Beadsworth took part in last year’s skydive raising £460. She said: “It was such an exhilarating feeling, unlike any other and the perfect way to celebrate or mark a momentous occasion or milestone.”
Hannah added: “We have people of all ages, both men and women taking part in skydives to raise money for this vital cause. One brave gentleman has even raised over £5000 for Cancer Research Wales by taking part in a skydive following his wife’s diagnosis of breast cancer. ”
