Event description

Description

Towards the end of nineteenth century women in Edinburgh began to make inroads into the male domain of the professional artist. They sought admission to art schools where they could study alongside men and for ways to exhibit their work and to be recognised as true professionals. This talk will explore their trials and successes. Dr Joanna Soden is a specialist in Scottish art. She worked for museum services in Dundee, Perth and Edinburgh before joining the staff of the Royal Scottish Academy. As Collections Curator she was responsible for the management and development of the academy’s nationally-important collections. She retired in 2013 but continues to work actively in the field.

All events are free but booking is essential. To book visit edinburghmuseums.org.uk or phone the City Art Centre on 0131 529 3993.
