A half term workshop Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Working in pairs you will learn basic bread making with white flour, how to incorporate yeast, do's and dont's of kneading and proving, and how to shape a loaf, plait, bread buns , savoury filled bread, tear and share or stromboli. Secondly you may choose to work with wholemeal or an enriched dough to make another savoury dough delight or with the enriched dough we will make chelsea buns, honey bread, fruit loaf or a cinnamon twist.

All ingredients and aprons are provided along with refreshments. PLease bring along containers to take home your bread.

Harmony House & Cookery School
Welcome to Harmony house - simply cooking a small cookery school now in its 10th year. It started as a passion by Cordon Bleu trained Hilary Finney to help those with little confidence to cook simple eye catching meals, and adapt recipes use readily available ingredients.
We have tried to break the mould of the cookery school model, so when you attend a course you will find the large kitchen adapted so everyone can cook together, each producing something slightly different, so students cannot compare and feel disappointed. You will enjoy a selection of equipment that is found in a domestic kitchen and will feel more at home. You will be in a class of between 4 and 8 persons and if you have a small group of *4 or more who want to cook together you can choose your own date and menu.
Over the years hundreds of people have passed through this kitchen, (and lived to tell the tale), and some I know have gone on to produce some fabulous meals with added confidence and new ideas !!
If you are arranging a hen day or team build you will be able to bring up to 12 and choose from afternoon tea, canapes and nibbles, baking bonanza, meals in minutes. You can have an afternoon tea here in our conservatory with china cups and saucers or you can box up your goodies to take home. You will find more on our website
If you would like to stay at Harmony House it is an AA 4 star gold graded bed & breakfast just outside York, so you can cook or stay or stay and cook. You can combine your special day with a sightseeing or shopping trip to York
Hilary is a trained Cordon Bleu Cook and teaches most courses, but you can arrange to have a special day with other professionals to make a lifestyle day with flowers, or chocolate making or cake decorating. You can relax and enjoy your refreshments and meals in our conservatory overlooking the garden or take your food home with you
When you come to Harmony House you can make simple recipes but adapt them to suit all occasions with eye catching presentation. So whether you are a beginner or confident cooks who just doesn't have time to spend the day in the kitchen, there will be a course or workshop here for you. You will work in pairs, around one large island in our specially adapted country kitchen cooking a variety of dishes which eliminates comparison and gives an ideal social atmosphere
Hilary began her career as a chef at the Holbeck Hall Hotel in Scarborough before joining a contract catering company to cook directors lunches in the City of London and then managing many catering operations for them before starting a family and setting up her own business
Hilary has been honoured to manage and provide catering at many venues including York Art Gallery, Hovingham Hall, Burton Agnes Hall, Mulgrave Castle, York Minster, Selby Abbey, and many long term contracts as Yorkshire Gents Cricket Club, and York Medical Society and the Duke of Norfolks family entertaining at Carlton Towers and cooked David Frost, Clarissa Dixon Wright, Ben Fogel and many more famous personalities over the 15 years.
Hilary also tutored students through City & Guilds 706/1 at Selby College, and for many years taught adult education courses. She is also a certified trainer for the chartered insitiute of environmental health and has professional qualifications in Hotel and Catering management
