Break Free is a holiday activity programme that targets holiday hunger by providing high quality activities and a hot meal for children aged 8– 13 from areas with most need in South Bristol.
Break Free is part of a Bristol wide project called Feeding Bristol. It confronts what has become one of the biggest social issues in modern society in the UK – with many parents of children on free school meals struggling to provide for them during the holiday period.
The aim of the programme is that young people can break free from having nothing to do, break free from their screens and their homes, and break free from being hungry during the school holidays. This is done through sports, arts, music, and drama, with staff from the local area that understand the issues.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
• To help Community of Purpose to fulfil its services
• Supporting Community of Purpose staff in setting up, running and tidying away activities
• To welcome, support and interact with the young people during the activities
• To take an active role during the activities
• Maintaining an appropriate standard of dress and personal hygiene. We do ask that volunteers do not use aftershave or perfume due to the high sensitivity of some of the young people we work with
• Be positive, approachable and offer praise to always promote objectives of the organisation
• Be a role model, displaying high standards of behaviour
• Make the activity fun and enjoy yourself!
