Description

What does belonging mean when you are set adrift from home, craving the taste of a faraway home and the culinary comfort it brings? Would you crave your mum's Sunday dinner, tatah's maté or injera from the local bakery?

Breakfast Elsewhere is a participatory gastro-performance that aims to answer this from the perspective of a cook who has come from several homes: Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Syria. The piece emplys an audio track that is fed in-ear to an audience volunteer, who speaks out a story and recipe for an intimate gathering of eight participants. This is a rare opportunity to experience Breakfast Elsewhere, where the small group is tasked to collaborativelly create a traditional breakfast dish called tese'yeh.

Part of Journeys Festival International, Manchester, 02 - 15 October. The festival celebrates the talents of refugee and asylum seeker artists, sharing experiences through great art and culture.
