Breaking Barriers promises to be a fascinating, informative and inspiring event, featuring some of the leading voices in breastfeeding research and advocacy. The day will feature a seminar from each of our speakers and a live Q&A.

Our Speakers

We have an incredible line up of speakers for you this year! Here they are, in no particular order...

Health educator, medical historian, author and pioneer lactation consultant Maureen Minchin IBCLC. Maureen has a wealth of experience in promoting evidence based infant feeding across the globe. Maureen is the author of a number of key breastfeeding publications spanning four decades, including Breastfeeding Matters: What we need to know about Infant Feeding (1985) and Milk Matters: Infant Feeding and Immune Disorder (2015).

Dr. Natalie Shenker is a co-founder of Hearts Milk Bank - the UK's first independent, non-profit donor milk bank. Natalie is an Oxford trained doctor and researcher, specialising in developmental biology, cancer risk and breastmilk research. Natalie's research has played a pivotal role in uncovering some of the unique and incredible qualities of breastmilk, as well as making these benefits accessible to more babies through free to use donor milk banks.

Prof. Amy Brown is a Professor of Child Public Health at Swansea University, specialising in maternal and child health, particularly nutrition. She campaigns to bring about better support for women who want to breastfeed and to improve the UK public's attitude towards breastfeeding in public. Amy is a published author, recent titles including Informed is Best (2019) and Why Breastfeeding Grief and Trauma Matter. (2019)

Dr. Wendy Jones MBE is one of the founding members of the Breastfeeding Network as a tutor and resident Pharmacist and later set up the BfN Drugs in Breastmilk information service, supporting parents and health professionals with evidence based information about the safety of medications and treatments while breastfeeding. Wendy is a published author of titles including Breastfeeding and Medication (2013) and Why Mother's Medication Matters (2017)

IBCLC CERPs will be applied for.

A full programme with details of each session will be available nearer to the date.Ticket price includes coffee and refreshments throughout the day including lunch. Please contact the organisers with any special dietary requirements.

This event is recommended for IBCLCs, Paediatricans, GPs, Midwives, Maternity Staff, Health Visitors, Nurses, Students, Breastfeeding Peer Supporters, and any parents with a special interest in breastfeeding.A creche will not be available. Babes in arms welcome.

About the venue:

The Kings Centre is a conference centre on King Street in beautiful Norwich, Norfolk. It is approximately 10 minutes walk or an 8-minute taxi ride from Norwich Railway Station. King Street is mostly pedestrianised but there is plenty of parking nearby, including Norwich Castle Mall car park, Riverside car park and Rouen Road.
