As Spiritual and Pastoral Care Lead for the NSFT I am writing to encourage you and members of your community to attend this free event on 16th November at Quay Place.
We have called this event “Breaking through Barriers” because people are often reluctant to talk about mental health issues even within our own communities let alone with outsiders - but if we find the courage to do so we can gain new insights and become better equipped to support each other.
We have chosen a day within the national Inter-faith Week as we know from experience how much can be gained from working together across cultural and religious boundaries and we want to highlight this.
We are holding the event in Quay Place, the new Heritage and Wellbeing Centre which has recently opened in the extended and restored medieval Church of St Mary at the Quay. We are very grateful for the opportunity to use this beautiful building which is just emerging with a new spiritual role in the service of the whole community.
The programme for the day offers an opportunity to raise questions, to share experiences, to make suggestions, to hear about existing support systems and to explore ways forward. There are many barriers to break down – but I hope that we can work together to tackle them.

Breaking down Barriers - Let's talk about mental health
You are invited to join us on Wednesday 16th November 2016

- how it affects our families and communities
- how we can access support when needed.
We hope that as we share experiences we will discover ways forward
that lead to positive outcomes whatever our faith or culture.
