As UK ports strive to decarbonise their operations, the demand for onshore power is set to rise exponentially. The pressure on the grids supplying power to these ports is already substantial. By 2030, UK ports are expected to need an additional 4.3 TWh of energy to meet current shore power demands without accounting for any future increase in port calls.

Key discussion points:

· Ports must meet their own power requirements to achieve their decarbonisation and many will have a significant energy gap to fill.

· Shipping lines are increasingly seeking shore power to reduce their environmental impact as shore power provides a 16% reduction in emissions at berth.

· Implementing additional shore power connectivity to date has required public grants and support.
