Description

To celebrate International Women's Day, join senior lecturer and researcher Dr Jagbir Jhutti-Johal for an evening in conversation with women faith leaders, exploring women's activism and equality within religion. Panellists will discuss their individual experiences in their religious environment, exploring how their faiths have provided equality, or reinforced inequality within the realm of religion and culture. The panellists reflections on how their religion has involved them in their religious institutions and communities, but also how their religion and faith has allowed them to play an integral and active role in their own community, but also the wider community to promote mutual understanding guided by their religious principles will facilitate greater literacy concerning religion and gender across the faiths.

The event will be held on the 8th March in the European Research Institute (Room 51) from 6-7.30pm, Speakers will include:

Lindsay Simmonds a research student at the London School of Economics who is exploring the lives of British orthodox Jewish women (BOJW).

Piali Ray CEO of Sampad

Mandeep Kaur first female Sikh Chaplain in the British Armed Forces
