Event description
Breastfeeding Peer Supporter course is to help enhance your knowledge of face to face, group and telephone support for breastfeeding mums.

About this Event

The course is delivered face to face in Birmingham, 9.30 to 5pm with 30 minutes for lunch.

This will be delivered online via zoom.  You can complete this training whether you have breastfed or not, however your opportunities for volunteering or paid work might be restricted depending on the criteria of the organisation.

The training is based on the Solihull Approach model and is designed for parent volunteers and workers such as family support workers who have an interest or who are working with families offering breastfeeding support during antenatal or postnatal period.

Workshop will consist of:

Introduction to peer supporter training and breastfeeding

Communication – helpful ways of providing support

Emotional significance of breastfeeding

Anatomy of how the breast works.

Practical based skills assessment positioning

Breastfeeding and common breastfeeding difficulties

Emotional responses to and support for breastfeeding difficulties

Infant feeding with other methods

Boundaries confidentiality and moving forward.

Post workshop competency assessment.

PLEASE NOTE WORKSHOP DATES ARE:

****Additional certification: Introduction to telephone support training – this is a written task which can be completed anytime for you to obtain an additional certificate in order to offer telephone support.  Ongoing support is always available via the social media chat forum. 

Upon completion you will receive a certificate in the post that states “You have successfully completed the Peer Breastfeeding Supporter Training” - this can only be issued once competencies have been achieved.  Upon completion you will also have access to resources via a password protected page on the Every Birth Matters Website.

You can list this course on your UCAS form as well as use you competency tasks in your portfolio for interview should you wish to create one. These skills you can use on placement, volunteering or within your support role.
