Breathing Art into Life: artists workshop
Event Information
Description
Led by artists Jayne Wilton, Miriam Quick & Helen Collard
Join us for a day of workshops with the artists who have collaborated with the Life of Breath and Palace Green Library teams to help contribute to the Catch Your Breath exhibition. Focusing on the inspiration of breath, Jayne, Miriam and Helen will lead workshops and talks on how breath can influence your practice.
Catch Your Breath – Jayne Wilton: Jayne will lead a workshop allowing you to explore making breath visible in both 2D and 3D. You are invited to investigate the breath’s ability to facilitate communication. These activities will allow you to experience processes used to create work exhibited in the current Catch Your Breath exhibition and you will have the opportunity to record your own breath visually, making permanent a trace of this usually transitory process.
Breath & Data – Miriam Quick: Miriam will discuss the creative process behind two projects collaboratively created with Stefanie Posavec, which are part of the Catch Your Breath exhibition: in Sleep Songs (2018) and Air Transformed (2015). Miriam will explain how they transformed raw data into visual and musical artworks.
Aerials of Listening: working with a breath – Helen Collard: Helen’s workshop will begin with a sequence of simple seated yogic breathing exercises. Through these practices, you’ll be asked to think of breath as a form of biofeedback to the mind and begin to investigate the conscious awareness of breath as a form of self-listening and listening to others. You will then explore listening through sound and a sound art exercise, making a simple graphic score documenting your listening. The scores will be used to examine and explore the relationship of time to embodiment, listening and breathing. Please wear comfortable clothes.
Full programme to be confirmed.
