About this event

Health • Mental health

Take some time for yourself to relax deeply, creating calm, focus and enjoy the many benefits to mind and body. Of all the yogic practices breathwork (Pranayama) has the greatest potentional to benefit a large range of conditions in the shortest amount of time, having a positive impact on all physiological systems.

Breathwork can:

  • Reduce and manage stress and anxiety by slowing down and controlling the breath, creating states of calm
  • Help with pain management and reduce pain and our reaction to it
  • Lower blood pressure by reducing high blood pressure triggers
  • Decrease the risk of depression, heart disease, demtia, diebities, and parkinsons by creating a greater variation of heart beat, which is also healthy for many of our body systems
  • Benefit mental health, creating safety to take deeper dives into emotional material
  • Provides greater connection to other people and the planet through the unity of the breath

"Everything you need to know about the mind you will find in the breath" Joy Bell

Somatics:

  • Origin: Somatics was created by Professor and theorist Thomas Hanna in 1976.
  • Focus: Somatics emphasizes the individual's internal experience of the body, rather than external appearances or external observation.
  • Practices: Somatic practices include movement, and other techniques that promote self-awareness and body-mind connection.
  • Benefits: Somatics can help improve flexibility, reduce pain, lower blood pressure and promote emotional regulation.
  • Relationship to the Mind: Somatic therapy recognizes the mind-body connection and explores how the body can hold and express trauma, emotions, and experiences

Meditation:

Meditation serves to provide much needed relaxation, a break from our busy lives, improving focus and concentration, and promoting more restful sleep. It enables us to quieten the mind and focus inwards, creating calm and enabling introspection.

What to expect:

The session will begin with gentle somatics to quiten the mind and relax the body in order to arrive fully present and promote mind body connection. We will then progress onto Breathwork and end with a Meditation to aid relaxation.

What to bring:

A yoga mat, pillow or cushion and blanket. Yoga mats will be available if you don't have one.

Tilton is just a ten minute drive from Oakham and thirty minutes from central Leicester. There is free parking outside the hall
