Event description

Description

As the Brexit negotiations unfold, the Scottish Socialist Voice – the only Socialist paper edited and published in Scotland – has organised a major international debate to examine the opportunities that may advance working people’s interests and raise demands which would result in a ‘Brexit premium’ for the masses, not the bosses.
  • If the EU was, as some suggested, the sole impediment to widespread public ownership in Britain, can we now, in leaving, return our railways, postal services and energy industries to public hands?
  • Can government money now be used to create skilled jobs in industry and to combat climate change, for example?
  • Can we now break with the rigged EU market and create an economy serving the people’s need for universal healthcare, quality jobs, decent homes and social security, rather than feed ever-greedy corporate profiteering?

Panelists will include:
ASBJØRN WAHL: Norwegian author, activist and trade union leader
MARGARET CUTHBERT: Eminent Scottish economist and academic
GORDON MARTIN: RMT Scottish Organiser
COLIN FOX: Scottish Socialist Party National Spokesperson
• Further speakers to be confirmed

This event aims to examine how working class people respond to Brexit, to maximise any gains they can make from it.
This is a vital topic for workers and the opening of a debate on how the working class movement responds to the consequences of Brexit.
