Brexit: Is the Train-Crash Avoidable?
Wed 18 January 2017, 18:00 – 19:30 GMT
Policy Scotland at the University of Glasgow is pleased to announce that Lord John Kerr – former EU Ambassador and author of Article 50 of the Treaty on the European Union – is to give the Policy Scotland 2017 Annual Lecture, entitled “Brexit: Is the Train-Crash Avoidable?”
Lord Kerr – who has been a vocal critic of the tactics of the UK Government since the referendum result became clear –will speak against a backdrop of growing uncertainty over the Government’s negotiating position. And with the judgement in the Supreme Court case on Article 50 expected any day around the lecture in January, it simply could not be more timely.
An Independent member of the House of Lords, Lord Kerr has served as ambassador to the EU and the United States, as well as Foreign Office Permanent-Under-Secretary. As Secretary-General of the EU Convention in 2002/3 he drafted Article 50, which sets out the Secession procedure which the UK is about to start.
