About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Are you looking to buy your first home or searching for your next place to rent?

Housing prices significantly impact our personal finances as well as the broader economy. They influence everything from our personal financial decisions to economic policies. The trends in housing prices are constantly changing, and various data sources offer unique insights into the market for houses and private rentals.

At the Office for National Statistics (ONS), we have refined our methods for measuring housing prices over time. We produce comprehensive statistics on housing price levels and trends, primarily using the Price Index of Private Rents (PIPR) and the UK House Price Index (HPI).

Join us for our upcoming ‘Bringing data to life’ webinar for beginners, where we will explore housing price statistics and the methodologies behind them. We will tackle complex questions such as how we identify an "average" house, the changes observed in the market over time, and the tools you can use to answer these questions yourself.

Our guest speakers will provide valuable insights into what the data reveals about housing prices in the UK and how it can be used. Learn how housing price statistics can inform your personal financial planning, enhance public understanding, and support policymakers in making data-driven decisions.

We will be using Slido for interactive participation during the event.

Learn more about the series

From health to inflation or the environment to migration, we explore how statistics are used to help us make better choices and improve our public services.

‘Bringing data to life’ is a series of online events, hosted by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which explore how your data makes a difference. We will explain the life cycle of statistics, from how we gather the data to releasing the figures that shape the future.

You will hear from people who work with data across government, exploring how they create statistics, where they have made an impact, and how your data is kept safe. These interactive events are open to anyone who wants to know more about how we tell the story of our society through numbers.

The events will take place through Microsoft Teams. They will also be recorded and available to watch later. We encourage you to support the ‘Bringing data to life’ series by using #StatisticsForThePublicGood on LinkedIn, X and Threads.
