JASG's Jeanne Darke says: "BRICKWORK LIZARDS: those of you pining for Gypsy Fire, who are off the road this year, can take the greatest comfort and consolation with this tremendous similar band who will give us an exotic blend of Turkish/Arabian jazz utilising their virtuosic instrumentalists and singers. An exuberant and colourful evening in store. Although as a rule we have a 'no smoking' policy in force, we might turn a blind eye to the occasional 'hooka' discreetly bubbling away!"
Brickwork Lizards are Oxford purveyors of the finest Turkabilly gyp-hop mashup, since 2005. They combine Arab folk tunes, 1930s jazz, vaudeville, rap and hip hop. You might also hear elements of delta blues, mariachi or gypsy music.
“BRICKWORK LIZARDS bring, in their own words, a taste of Turkabilly gyp-hop mashup to proceedings. A treat as much for the eyes as the ears, every town needs a band with a balalaika (sic) and Oxford is lucky to have them. They make you want to get married just so you can book them to play!” - Nightshift / August 2014
