Description

Bridging the gap: Community engagement as a model of mission for the rural church

Date: Thursday 27th June 2019

Time: 10 am to 4 pm

Cost: £10 which will include lunch

Venue: Stadhampton Village Hall, St John's Church, Copson Lane, Stadhampton, OX44 7TZ

The day will focus on the theology and history of community engagement as a model for mission in rural churches. We will explore examples and models of creative partnerships between church, school and community, building relationships with people in new housing in rural communities, and the church building as a social hub. There will be an opportunity for you to reflect on how the community engagement model of mission can be applied in your particular context and can contribute to your local strategic work to build stronger connections within the community and grow the church.

The day is open to rural clergy and lay leaders and it would be particularly relevant for clergy and ministry teams coming in groups of twos or threes to work together.

Clergy can claim the cost of the day from their CMD budget and benefices are encouraged to support the costs for lay people in ministry teams where possible.

Presenter:
Claire Maxim has been director of Germinate at the Arthur Rank Centre, the Church's national resource centre for the rural church, since April 2018. She was previously the Rector of Ludgershall and Faberstown in the Dicoese of Salisbury. Claire was originally an engineer, has an MBA from Henley Business School, a diploma in applied theology from The Queen's Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Education in Birmingham, and is studying for a professional doctorate at the Centre for Rural Ministry Studies at the University of Warwick.
