Event description

Description

Brief Intervention in Sexual Health (BISH) training is aimed at frontline practitioners to arm them with the tools to be able to have discussions around sexual health, understand and be able to refer to local Contraception and Sexual Health (CASH) services and support the undertaking of a chlamydia screen and sign young people up for the condom programme. The training is interactive with lots of opportunity for small group discussions.

The training last for four hours and covers topics that are relevant to young people. These topics are:
• Safeguarding, Fraser Competencies and the Sexual Offences Act 2003
• Sex & The Law
• Sexuality and gender identity terms and how to ask a young person’s sexuality.
• Delaying first sexual experience
• Sexually Transmitted Infections
• Contraception including Long Acting Revisable Contraception (LARC) and Emergency Contraception
Each topic has practitioner guidance, how to explain it to young people and activities that you can do with young people to support their understanding.
Practitioners are given packs at the end of their training which includes handouts, the presentation and a list of support services (nationally and locally).
The training is reviewed annually with new trends, policy and definitions added as appropriate.
BISH training has been running in Kent for two years and has received lots of good feedback.
