Description

The Business Council for Africa and Invest Africa (BCA-IA) look forward to hosting a group of the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoys (PMTEs). The PMTEs are at the forefront in strengthening trade and investment relationships with key markets whilst simultaneously promoting British business interests in these locations. We look forward to learning more on how Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda are key areas of business in British Government policy.

We will be joined by:

Lord Hollick of Notting Hill, Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Kenya and Tanzania


Lord Hollick was made a life peer (Labour) in 1991 and is Chairman of the Economic Affairs Select Committee. He started his career at Hambros Bank becoming a director in 1973. From 1974 to 2005 he built an international financial services and media business with subsidiaries in television, film, publishing, newspapers, market research and information. He led the media group at KKR between 2005 and 2010. Lord Hollick has been a director of Logica, BAE Systems, Honeywell and Diageo. In 1988, he founded the IPPR think tank.

Lord Popat, Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Uganda and Rwanda

Lord Popat is a Conservative Peer and Party Whip and was previously a Minister of the Crown with responsibilities for the Departments of Business, Innovation and Skills, and Transport. Born in Uganda, he moved to the UK in 1971. Following a forty year career in the private sector, initially specialising in business and corporate finance before moving into the healthcare and hospitality sectors, he was made a Peer by Prime Minister David Cameron in 2010 for his services to small businesses. His interests in the House of Lords are SMEs, increasing Britain’s exports and trade relations with India and Africa.

Andrew Selous MP, Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to South Africa

Andrew is the Member of Parliament for South West Bedfordshire. He was a Territorial Army officer for twelve years and served in Germany, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States of America. Andrew was a director of a small family manufacturing business CNS Instruments Ltd which made precision non-destructive testing equipment. In 2006 he was appointed a shadow work and pensions minister. In 2014 Andrew was appointed Minister for prisons and rehabilitation as Parliamentary under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice. Andrew worked as a reinsurance underwriter before being elected to Parliament. His firm helped many of the world’s poorest communities recover from natural disasters.

Jeremy Lefroy MP, Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Ethiopia

Jeremy is the Member of Parliament for Stafford. Jeremy’s political interests include sustainable development and enterprise, urban regeneration, environment, small business, health. Jeremy is self-employed, working with smallholder farmers in East Africa to produce organic coffee and cocoa for the world market. His charity interests include "Equity for Africa" helping small businesses in Africa to obtain the capital they need to grow. In recent years, he has served on the Conservative Party's Globalisation and Global Poverty policy group.
