Bright Futures Women's Leadership and Enterprise Conference
Event Information
Description
The face of Scotland’s SME community is changing – be part of it!
Visibly invisible - Can you see me? Can you hear me? The value of the BME woman in Scotland.
Following the exponential success of the Bright Futures Women’s Leadership and Enterprise program, Radiant and Brighter is launching the Bright Future’s Scotland Conference. The first of its kind, this conference will bring together women from BME communities with women from across Scotland’s enterprising communities. The minority ethnic population is 4% of Scotland’s total population and together we will celebrate diversity as the cornerstone of innovation and reflect Scotland’s growing entrepreneurial base.
Funded by Scottish Government through the Aspiring communities Fund, the Women’s Enterprise and Leadership program has supported BME women to develop ideas into business, author books and acquire jobs. Successfully overcoming barriers and making a growing contribution to the economy. In just over 7 months, the program has brought together over 90 women into a shared learning space, supporting each other to succeed and becoming effective contributors to the whole of Scottish society.
We are delighted to annouce that Aileen Campbell Cabinet Secretary for Communites and Local Government will be our keynote speaker.
Research by the University of Strathclyde has found ethnic minority entrepreneurs in Scotland need more engagement and support from the government and key industry partners to start and grow successful businesses. According to the analysis, 44% of ethnic minorities in Scotland have a family business background and 12% of ethnic minority adults intend to start a business in the next three years. This event will be the next step in unlocking the full entrepreneurship potential of Scotland’s women – a celebration of diversity, new ideas and collaborations.
The pioneering partnership established between Radiant and Brighter, Women’s Enterprise Scotland and the Royal Bank of Scotland will strengthen business networks and support for BME women. It will open the conversation and bring new perspectives, thought leadership and exciting new business ideas to benefit Scotland’s economy.
The vibrant program will include a play performed by the Bright Futures Scotland women depicting their real life stories and experiences and a showcase of businesses run by women from across Scotland.
