- eNRICHing mathematics learning at KS4

A linked pair of two full-day professional development events developed and delivered by NRICH, in partnership with Cambridge University Press.

Participants will attend both days.

Thursday 25 June 2015, 09.30 - 16.00

Thursday 9 July 2015, 09.30 - 16.00

Venue: Centre for Mathematical Sciences, University of Cambridge

This free CPD training is designed to support teachers in adapting to the challenges of the transition to the new GCSE Mathematics specifications, for first teaching from 2015.

This linked pair of training days is delivered by the award-winning NRICH team from the University of Cambridge. The pair of linked days will address the key aims of the new GCSE curriculum, emphasising fluency, reasoning and problem-solving. Participants will attend both days.

The days will focus on supporting teachers to develop and nurture confident, resourceful and enthusiastic learners of mathematics in their schools. These CPD events will:

• Develop teachers' confidence in preparing students for the new GCSE
• Explore how NRICH activities support the development of fluency, reasoning and problem solving
• Encourage teachers to discuss and adapt current resources and teaching strategies

As a result of attending these days teachers will gain a better understanding of how rich tasks support the three aims of the new National Curriculum in the classroom, and in particular build on their understanding of how to support students to develop their skill in, and enjoyment of, problem solving.

Thanks to generous support from Cambridge University Press we are able to offer free places to teachers of mathematics at KS4 at any UK school. This free professional development training is delivered over a pair of linked days, with participants required to attend both days.

The award-winning NRICH project aims to enrich the experiences of all mathematics learners. NRICH is based at the University of Cambridge, involving staff in both the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Mathematics. All the NRICH team are qualified teachers who are also practitioners in rich mathematical thinking.

NRICH aims to enrich the mathematical experiences of all learners. To support this aim, members of the NRICH team work in a wide range of capacities, including providing professional development for teachers wishing to embed rich mathematical tasks into everyday classroom practice.
