Brighton College Tour

Brighton College , Eastern Road, Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, BN2 0AL

A tour of Brighton College, with an introduction to the history of the school and its buildings.

The College is situated in the Kemp Town district to the east of Brighton. The early parts of the school were designed by Sir Gilbert Scott, RA, 1848 to 1862. Additions were made by Sir Thomas Jackson, RA, an Old Brightonian, in 1885. The Performing Arts Centre, incorporating Scott’s Café, music rooms and the Dance Studio, was opened in the summer of 2000. A new Visual Arts Centre was created in 2008, and the new Skidelsky building was completed in 2010. A new social space, the Smith Building, opened in January 2012, followed by a new girls’ boarding house in autumn 2013. The original vision of Sir Thomas Jackson for the main quad was completed in 2014 via the construction of the entrance tower. The new Music School opened in 2016, and a new teaching block, the Yeoh building, opened in September 2017. The Science and Sports Centre, designed by OMA, is now taking shape, opening in November 2019.

Please note: The tour starts promptly and latecomers may not be able to join the tour. The tour will involve stairs and may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.
