The changing landscape of international research funding; opportunities, challenges and partnerships

Rachael Sara-Kennedy, Head of International Partnerships, Universities UK International (UUKi)

This Brighton Futures networking event and evening barbecue is aimed at all staff and postgraduate students undertaking research and enterprise who have international experience or would like to work internationally. The University of Brighton has research links across the world. At this University-wide event, we will plan our future research and collaboration on the international stage. In participating you will:

  • gain insights from talks by colleagues who have built successful international partnerships
  • share your experiences
  • find out about new University funding opportunities and how funding for international research is changing.

In particular, the international day is designed to:

  • support staff and postgraduate career development by linking staff and students into our international work
  • promote progressive research and enterprise at the University that addresses issues internationally
  • enable staff and postgraduates to identify possible collaborations and to bid for new research funding streams, such as the Global Challenges Research Fund and established funding programmes such as European Commission (EC) funding
  • determine our future international research profile and priorities.

The event will include Regional Discussion Workshops providing a chance to describe your own work and hear about the work of other staff and postgraduate research students in your geographical region of interest and to identify ideas for future collaborative research. If you wish to describe your work, please come prepared to talk informally in under two minutes about your research and the types of contacts and networks you would like to develop with colleagues in the University.

The Regional Discussion Workshops will be based on the following United Nations regions:

  • Europe (includes Russia)
  • Africa
  • The Americas (includes Antarctica)
  • Asia (excluding Eastern Asia)
  • Eastern Asia (includes China, Japan, Korea and Mongolia) and Oceania (includes Australia and New Zealand).

You will be asked to indicate which Regional Discussion Workshop you want to work in when you book. If you need to look at the countries in each United Nations region to help you make your choice look here for the list of countries https://unstats.un.org/unsd/methodology/m49/

The Brighton Futures Connected, Creative, Healthy, Radical and Responsible – enable us to develop interdisciplinary research communities and communicate our international impact to the outside world.
