Event description

Description

There’s a huge demand for engineers in the UK that isn’t being met. Young people often have little idea about what engineers do, and we need your help to change this.

We are looking for volunteers to support this years Bring it On

We'll be welcoming thousands of 9-14 year olds on 9th and 10th October 2019, at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland and we want your help to excite and enthuse young people about careers in engineering and sharing knowledge with the local community, helping to show that engineering can be rewarding, meaningful, memorable and fun! We need help to deliver this event in the following areas:

  • Zone Managers
  • Registration staff
  • Runners
  • Information points

If you’re passionate about inspiring the next generation of North East engineers then register your interest.

If you need any further information or experience any problems with registering your interest please contact us on carol.harrison@rtnorth.co.uk or 0191 516 4400.

The event is a collaboration of national and regional organisations aiming to help reduce the skills gap within engineering by inspiring young people at grass roots level. Bring it On showcases North East Engineering to young people with the objectives of educating them about the engineering activities which take place in the region, inspiring them to want to be part of it and informing them about what they need to do to become so.

We have businesses from all over the region coming together to demonstrate just how exciting engineering can be, through talks, demonstrations and opportunities to ‘give it a go’. The exhibition will be separated into zones, so pupils can explore different areas within engineering, helping them get to grips with the different applications in a wide variety of organisations. Exhibitors will be in one of 6 exciting zones:

  • Subsea, Oil & Gas and Renewables
  • Automotive, Rail & Aerospace
  • Civil, Structural and Construction
  • Chemical, Biotech & Pharmaceutical
  • Digital & Creative
  • The Big Bang

As part of the commitment to attend the event on the dates you have specified you will also be required to attend a mandatory briefing session, late afternoon on the 8th October 2019.

Please note we do not accept registrations from training companies or providers.

We have a duty of care to safeguard our children and therefore ask if you have a current DBS. If not, or even if you have, this might interest you, could you please take a look at our STEM Ambassador Programme as not only does this provide you with a free DBS, the programme also covers you for insurance purposes. www.stem.org.uk

Our ambassadors volunteer their time to encourage and inspire young people to progress further into STEM subjects by covering a range of activities, the ‘Bring it On’ event being one of them.

All you need to do is set up an ambassador account by clicking here. Our hub will then be in touch to advise next steps.

If you continue with the programme the hub will be there to support you moving forward. You will be able to engage in as many activities as you wish.

If you have any questions about this programme then please do get in touch with the hub on stem@rtcnorth.co.uk
