Description

On 25 July, The S+K Project will be holding the very first Bring Me In in Birmingham, following its highly successful London series. Bring Me In is an event featuring activities, performances and insightful panel discussions, aiming to facilitate creative collaborations between people of colour.

Join us as we bring together Birmingham’s top BAME creatives who will be sharing their tips on how to best to develop artistic ecosystems in the UK's major cities, the best way to build networks in Birmingham as a hub for BAME talent, plus your chance to connect with like-minded individuals.

ON THE PANEL:

Amahra Spence - Amahra is a writer, performance artist and producer, working across the creative industries. In 2013, she set up MAIA, a production and development company committed to exploring how artists live, work and contribute in society. They are currently developing the proposal for Birmingham's own artist-led hotel.

Ammo Talwar - Music entrepreneur Ammo Talwar started Punch Records as a specialist record shop and a hub for local DJs playing Black Music. A recipient of the Clore cultural leadership award, Ammo’s professional acumen is in demand by artists and organisations facing both new business opportunities and challenges. Currently chair of the UK African Caribbean music touring network – Black Routes, An X board member of Birmingham’s performing arts school BOA and Chair of Multi Academy Trust CORE, he leads on charting Punch’s future, securing new business while actively participating in programme delivery. His biggest passion is his black Labrador, Sydney.

Ian Sergeant - Ian began his career in the arts in 1994 as a founder member of Black Pyramid Film and Video, Bristol, provided training in film production and hosted an annual film festival in partnership with the Watershed. He has worked for several institutions, including The Drum Arts Centre, New Art Exchange, Arts Council England and Birmingham City Council and is currently the Cinema and screen producer for mac Birmingham.

Most recently Ian devised and led a research project about the late artist Donald Rodney, leading to the exhibition, Reimaging Donald Rodney exploring the digital embodiment and rich legacy of Rodney in October 2016. In 2017 Ian curated the One Love Exhibition at The Rep Birmingham to coincide with the hugely popular and successful One Love: The Bob Marley Musical. This featured posters designed for the International Reggae Poster Competition

Ian is a Director of Kalaboration CIC, a visual and performing arts initiative, commissioning artists, hosting symposiums and public engagement initiatives. He is a director of Ort Gallery, Balsall Heath, and an artist-led gallery space in Balsall Heath.
