About this event

  • Event lasts 45 minutes

As part of Learning Disability Week, we are holding a lunchtime session that will introduce our newly launched Easy Read booklet which explains what commercial sexual exploitation is and how to get support.

Last year, CSE Aware engaged with frontline staff to understand how commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) impacts women with learning disabilities in Scotland. The result was a report and a briefing. This work also recognised the vulnerability of women with learning disabilities to this form of abuse and emphasised the need for accessible information about this issue.

Developed with input from both women with lived experience of learning disability and frontline staff, this resource was designed to raise awareness of CSE in an accessible and friendly format.

What to expect?

During this event, we will share why it is crucial to bring a learning disability lens to the issue of commercial sexual exploitation. We will talk you through the development journey and give you a sneak peek of the contents. Finally, we will reflect on ways in which you can use this resource in your service and practice.

Who can attend?

Open to frontline staff in Scotland and anyone interested in learning more about CSE. This event will be of particular interest to services and practitioners supporting women, including those working in areas such as learning disability, social care, social work, housing, substance use, violence against women, immigration, mental health, gambling, money advice, among others.

Please note this event is funded through Delivering Equally Safe and follows the Scottish Government’s approach to commercial sexual exploitation as a form of gender-based violence. The event will address women’s experiences from this perspective.
