Come and spend a day at the historic Nottingham Castle exploring how to bring your local history to life in the classroom. This free training session is designed for teachers who want to make meaningful links between local, national, and international history and provide pupils with engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
What to Expect:
- Timelines in Action – Learn how to build and use timelines to help pupils see connections between your local story and wider history. You will receive resources to make your own classroom timelines.
- Maps and Aerial Photographs – Explore how historical and modern maps can be used to understand changes over time. You will take away maps and aerial photos of your own school to use back in class.
- Learning from Buildings – Discover how local buildings can act as powerful evidence for the past, and how to interpret architecture with your pupils.
- Creating Heritage Trails – Take part in a guided heritage walk around Nottingham, with practical advice on planning your own trail, asking effective questions, and encouraging enquiry-led learning.
By the end of the day, you will leave with ready-to-use resources, new confidence in using your local environment as a history resource, and plenty of fresh ideas to inspire your pupils.
