Diaspora Uganda Nurses Midwives Society (DUNMS) is delighted to host Dr Joan Myers OBE, in an open discussion about bringing Faith and Practice together.

Dr Myers is a strategic nurse leader, consultant and educator in community children’s nursing services. She has worked as an advisor to the NHS’s Chief Nursing Officer for England for over ten years, including being the Chair of the CNO BME Strategic Advisory Group for five years up until 2017 and received an OBE for services to children and nursing in the Queens Birthday honours’ list in 2013.

She is a Queen’s Nurse and was voted among the top 50 most influential BME figures in the NHS by the HSJ in 2020 and 2021. Joan founded a children’s charity in Kenya, providing education and support for over 25 vulnerable children and their families.

She is a also a phenomenon mentor and a pastor who authored the article titled, : Spiritual calling in the Nurisng Standard where she advocated for The spirit to be regarded as an important part of nursing care. In the article Dr Myers highlighted that patients’ spiritual needs should be incorporated into nursing care - which is supported by literature and policy.

We sit down in an open converstaion with her to explore this and more on how to be "your authentic self" in the work place.
