PLEASE NOTE Waiting list now closed. We will be running a returns queue on the night, where those without tickets are welcome to queue for empty seats. These will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis 5 minutes before the start of the event. Only make the journey if you are willing to take the chance.

As former Prime Minister and our longest-serving Chancellor, Gordon Brown has been a guiding force for Britain and the world over 40 years. His memoir, My Life, Our Times, reflects candidly on an extraordinary career from New Labour's 1997 landslide electoral victory, to the 2008 global financial crisis and the historic 2014 Scottish and 2016 European referendums. He talks about this and more - the coalition negotiations of 2010, Britain and Europe – as well as his many years at the Treasury where he equipped Britain for a globalised economy, introduced the minimum wage, gave independence to the Bank of England and refinanced the NHS.

To ensure we can include as many audience questions as possible on the night, we are collecting them at time of booking.

This event is free, but booking is required. Online booking is via Eventbrite and managed by Festival of Ideas. Please use the contact function in Eventbrite or get in touch with any online booking queries.

We have restricted the number of tickets that can be booked to one per transaction. This has been introduced in an effort to stop people automatically booking multiple tickets without confirming if they have guests to go with them. We hope this will help to limit the number of 'no shows' at the events, which currently run at around 35% of bookings. If you need more than one ticket, you can click on the booking link again. The little extra effort involved will hopefully put off those who don’t really need more than one, but not those who do.

Events start punctually and, out of consideration to other audience members and speakers, our policy is not to admit latecomers. Please make sure to arrive before the advertised start time to take your seat/s.

The Festival of Ideas endeavours to hold its events in venues that are accessible to all. The Great Hall in the Wills Memorial Building has a loop system and is accessible to wheelchair users. For more information about accessing the venue, check here. If you have specific access concerns, please do contact us with any questions.

We sometimes film and photograph Festival of Ideas events. Please let us know if you do not wish to be filmed or photographed.

Audience data will be shared with University of Bristol and you may be contacted by them about future events. Please let us know if you do not want your information to be shared.
