BBC Preview - War of Words: Soldier-Poets of the Somme

Watershed, Bristol

Wed 5 November 2014, 18.00-21.00, Free but booking required

More poets and writers took part in the battle of the Somme than any other battle in history, among them Siegfried Sassoon, Robert Graves, David Jones, and JRR Tolkien. This new BBC film looks at how these men served in the same trenches, fought in the same attacks and produced poetry and prose that has shaped the way people remember the Great War. Their poems, memoirs and fiction don’t just relate what happened; they take readers into the moment, evoking what it felt like to be there.

This special evening includes a preview of the new BBC film War Of Words: Soldier-Poets of the Somme and panel discussion. Part of Bristol 2014.

This event is free but prebooking is required. You need to show your ticket at the door. Please be ready to take your place by 17.50 at the latest.

We have restricted the number of tickets that can be booked to one per transaction. This has been introduced in an effort to stop people automatically booking multiple tickets without confirming if they have guests to go with them. We hope this will help to limit the number of 'no shows' at the events, which currently run at around 35% of bookings. We will monitor the situation. If you need more than one ticket, you can click on the booking link again. The little extra effort involved will hopefully put off those who don’t really need more than one, but not those who do.

Please ensure you use the correct email address. This is where your ticket will be sent. If you do not provide the correct address, you will not receive the acknowledgement email or ticket.
