Description

City to Sea: Addressing Marine Litter, Bristol Fashion
Mon 8 June 2015, 19:30-21:00
Watershed, Bristol
£5 (includes glass of wine on arrival)

With over eight million tonnes of plastic waste entering our oceans each year, what is Bristol doing to reduce the amount of litter flowing out via the Avon? If Bristol had a plastics charter, what would it look like? Should we implement free water refill stations? Can we encourage people to bin plastic ear buds instead of flushing them down the toilet? Could we redesign our storm drains to stop bottle tops from entering the Avon? What about adopting a city-wide deposit scheme for plastics?

This event offers lively debate, expert speakers and artistic reflection on current city initiatives and key goals to tackle this global issue during Bristol’s year as European Green Capital. It takes place on World Oceans Day. Hosted by Natalie Fee, the event will be filmed by Made in Bristol TV to form a two-part current affairs show.

The debates will be followed by an artistic response to marine litter: the launch of Natalie Fee's new music video, which was crowd-funded in Bristol on World Oceans Day last year, and four short animations that highlight the issue through poetry and comedy.

This event is suitable for those over 15.

In association with Bristol 2015 and City to Sea.

City to Sea is a collaboration of groups and individuals including Natalie Fee (Made in Bristol TV/City to Sea co-founder), Ali Rowe (Brisfest/City to Sea co-founder), Livvy Drake (Green Livvy/Kambe Events) and Mel Watson (RAW Foundation). The core objective of City to Sea is to bring together the existing 'forces for change' in Bristol to support each other and have greater impact during 2015 and beyond.
