Event description
Level 2 - Mental Health First Aid

About this event

Mental Health and Wellbeing’ is an important strand of Bristol Festivals' work. Most festivals have a core team at their heart which expands and grows with the delivery of their event. Who looks after the Mental Health of the core team? Who looks after the Wellbeing of the expanded team?

Mental Health First Aid Level 2. Building on your skills from your Level 1 training (essential), Level 2 looks at how a positive mental health culture can be supported within a workplace, the effects of drugs and alcohol and The First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan.

Delivered by Holly Solo-Hawthorn from Wellie Life, the course is accredited by NUCO training which is an OfQual regulated training provider.

What is Mental Health First Aid training and why is it an important part of a team's shared skill set?

We have long recognised that within a workplace having a physical first aider, who can reassure an injured person, confidently give immediate basic first aid support, and who knows when it’s time to call for professional help, is essential.

A mental health first aider is there to not only support the ongoing mental wellbeing of the workplace, but to be the person who knows how to look out for signs that a team member is not feeling mentally well, knows how to start a conversation about mental health and mental illness, and who has the confidence to recognise when it’s time to support a person to seek professional help.

We often think of manging our physical health, by eating well and exercising, to reduce our chances of becoming physically ill. Mental health is often viewed in a more negative light, through misinformation, misunderstanding and social stigma. But if we don't look after our mental health, just like our physical health, we are at a higher risk of experiencing mental illness.

In addition to the Mental Health First Aid training, after completion of the training, you will be invited to join our peer to peer sessions, collaborating on creating a ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing Code of Conduct’ and collectively improving the mental wellbeing picture of our industries future.

Please bring your own lunch or pop out to a café nearby. The location in St. Pauls and next to Cabot Circus provides ample choice of lunchtime goodies. All tea and coffee will be provided.
