A rare opportunity to go behind the scenes at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery with a curator led tour of the art of the ‘Bristol School’, an informal group of 19th-century artists.
Active mainly between 1810 and 1840, the Bristol School are known for their atmospheric landscape paintings and genre scenes, influenced by Edward Bird's sketching groups. Key members included Francis Danby and Samuel Jackson.
In addition, there will be an opportunity to visit the Museum’s exhibition"Prince of the Rocks": JMW Turner and the Avon Gorge” featuring four rare watercolours from Turner’s 1791 visit that have not been on display for 11 years.
Details: Meet at 12 noon inside the main museum entrance hall, gathering by the donations point. The tour will last from 12 noon to 2 pm, with a social gathering afterwards in the museum cafe.
Cost: There will be no charge to join. The tour is free, donations to the museum would be appreciated.
