Want to learn calligraphy? Make paper crane origami? Wear a Japanese Kimono? Come join us on November 3rd when we will be celebrating Bunka no Hi (Japanese Culture Day), a holiday for promoting Japanese culture and arts!

Along with Modern Japanese performances such as break dancing and Japanese singers performing hit songs, there will be traditional Japanese performances throughout the day including a Geisha showcase, martial art demonstrations and a Kimono dressing show.

Let's not forget our amazing Japanese cafe corner with tea, coffee, and Japanese food and snacks for sale, as well as a raffle with several great prizes at the end.

Activities planned:

- Kimono Dress Up -

Have fun posing in elegant traditional Japanese clothes with beautiful accessories and have your photo taken by our photographer.

- Ikebana 'Living Flowers' -

Watch a free demonstration and experience the Japanese art of flower arrangement.

- Shodo 'The way of writing' -

Try your hands at this traditional Japanese art of calligraphy or have your name or favourite phrases hand written for you in Japanese characters.

- Origami 'The art of paper folding' -

Learn how to fold paper into different objects and help us complete our 'One Thousand Cranes' for children going through treatment for cancer.

- Sado 'Tea Ceremony' -

Join us for a session of traditional Japanese Sado Tea Ceremony. You will be served matcha green tea and wagashi (traditional Japanese sweet). The participation fee is £5 and the first session will be from 12:30 with each session lasting 45 minutes.

Please register your attendance with us via Eventbrite or our page on Facebook. Booking on the day is required for joining the Sado Tea ceremony. All proceeds will be donated to the Bristol Children's Hospital.

Some activities such as the Sado Tea Ceremony will require payments in cash to participate. As Ashton Court is not close to cash point machines, if you would like to join all activities, please bring cash with you to fully enjoy the event.
