Event description

Description

Bristol’s Recruitment and Retention task group, part of Learning City, are hosting a free Well-being Workshop on at the Bristol Harbour Hotel (lunch included). Working in a school is stressful and Bristol needs a healthy teacher workforce to deliver the outcomes our children deserve. That is why teacher wellbeing is a priority for Learning City.

The workshop will:

  • Provide insight into an evidence-based training and coaching model that has been used to improve staff well-being in schools and various other organisations

  • Provide an opportunity to practise using this model for your own wellbeing

  • Help you reflect on how this model might be tailored and applied in your own settings

This day-long workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Paul Flaxman and Ross McIntosh (City, University of London) and Dr. Duncan Gillard (Bristol City Council). The workshop provides a unique opportunity to learn about a psychological and behavioural skills approach that has been found effective for improving employees’ well-being and mental health.

The day will begin with a brief presentation on the importance of psychological well-being in the workplace, showing research that has linked staff wellbeing with various outcomes (such as job performance and turnover).

The presenters will then provide an overview of a workplace intervention model that has been adapted from a psychotherapeutic approach known as acceptance and commitment training (ACT). There is a growing body of research conducted around the world showing that this approach leads to significant improvements in staff well-being and mental health.

Delegates will then have an opportunity to work in smaller groups, to experience how the ACT approach can be used:

1) to reflect on our own personal values;

2) as a skills training programme delivered to staff groups; and

3) to enhance leadership and team development

By the end of the day, it is hoped that you will be in a strong position to begin utilising this model in your own lives and school settings.

Spaces are limited to two per school. One should be in a senior leadership role, with the other already designated as a mental health lead or with a keen interest in wellbeing and mental health. If you would like to attend please book via Eventbrite. Only 200 spaces are available so please book quickly.

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us on learning.city@bristol.gov.uk

We look forward to welcoming you on the 13th June.
