Description

This is the launch of an idea...a concept....and the space within which we can start to make it happen: the Bristol Textile Quarter (BTQ.)

BTQ is a CIC offering affordable workspace, reference sources and equipment on a membership basis to textile students, graduates, designers, start-ups and dabblers alike. We also run workshops and can hire our space out to tutors for workshops, knit circles and other community groups.

We dream of a Bristol that cares as much about how it is clothed as it cares about how it eats (!) and are excited to finally be launching BTQ as a workspace, but also a means of facilitating meaningful and productive networking and collaborations between likeminded textile peers. We are building a community that wants to see more responsible, more resilient supply chains lay the foundations for our local textile economy.

Please check back here for updated schedule and timings, but the evening will include the following:

..............................................................

Clothing Clinic!

by Kate Uzzell of Antiform 5 - 7pm

Bring your buttoned shirts, odd length dresses and sawn-off sleeved shirts to the Clothing Clinic. Let us get you wearing the good intentioned, hoarded garments that you know would look great if only they fit/didn't have a hole/weren't fraying at the edge! No job too small, if you've torn a seam that caught in a door handle or need a stain-covering patch bring the injured article with you to the launch and we'll do our best to give it a quick fix!

..............................................................

Field to Fleece to Fabric

Explore the world of wool with Jen Hunter from Mendip eco-farm Fernhill - and discover our first steps in weaving (excuse the pun) a new story for Bristol's textile economy.

..............................................................

Hand-weaving Demonstrations

by Dash + Miller

Six Items Challenge - Sign Up Opportunity!!

How do you choose and wear your clothes? What do they mean to you? How would you go about choosing just six garments to wear for six weeks? Garment-workers activist and solidarity campaign Labour Behind the Label happens to be Bristol-based, and their Six Items Challenge ( a Lent-long fashion "fast" to oppose fast-fashion) happens to be launching just about the same night us BTQ. Read more about the Challenge here, sign up and come forward on the 19th to join Team BTQ. Not just a fundraiser, but also an opportunity to embark on a short journey with ethically-minded Bristol souls and explore the relationship that we have with the garments we choose.
