Bristol's Lost City - Clive Burlton
Fri 11 November 2016, 18:30 – 20:00 GMT
In 1914 a 30-acre site between Ashton Gate and Cumberland Basin was transformed into the Bristol International Exhibition. It was an optimistic celebration of Britain's achievements, half trade fair and half theme park, with a roller-coaster ride, daily pageants and even a troupe of lions. But when war was declared in August 1914 the exhibition was doomed and the exhibition space transformed for military use. Come and hear Clive Burlton describe this fascinating transition from peacetime to wartime.
