Britain’s greatest radicals: No. 1, Thomas Paine. Zoom tour with Ed Glinert
Event Information
About this Event
Thomas Paine wrote the greatest ever political book by an Englishman, The Rights of Man, in 1791. No publisher would touch it initally!
Paine also coined the name “the United States of America”.
He was supposed to be guillotined during the French Revolution.
In prison he wrote The Age of Reason which controversially claimed that science and rationality would prevail over religion and superstition.
The bones of his corpse weren’t allowed into Manchester in 1820 for fear of insurrection.
Join Ed Glinert, one of Britain’s leading political history tour guides, on this unique Zoom talk-tour on the life of the formidable Thomas Paine, inspired by ace cartoonist Paul Fitzgerald’s forthcoming graphic novel. Tom Paine’s Bones.
