Event description

The British Functional Fitness Championships (BFFC) is the national championships for competitive functional fitness in the UK.

The BFFC is organised by the Fitness Racing Federation (United Kingdom) and any revenues generated from the competition will be re-invested in programmes to promote the sport in the UK.

The BFFC seeks to achieve four objectives:

- to deliver a community-owned national championships of the highest quality;

- to identify national champions who can credibly claim to be the fittest male, female or team in the United Kingdom;

- to select the team that will represent the UK at the iF3 World Championships 2019 in Sweden; and,

- to inspire athletes of all abilities to become the best athlete they can be.

Competition Format

The BFFC will be delivered in two parts: online qualifiers and a final.

The BFFC will use the format being developed by the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) for inclusion in the Olympic Games.

This format uses six tests of fitness over a 2-3 day period. The tests are: aerobic capacity, strength, bodyweight skill, bodyweight endurance, mixed modal and power.

This format will be applied to both the online qualifiers and the final (see below).

Medal Events

The BFFC medal events are: Men's Individual Medley, Women's Individual Medley and Team Medley (MMFF).

The Individual Medley will be sub-divided into age group categories as follows: Open (18 - 34), Teen 1 (14-15), Teen 2 (16-17), Masters 1 (35-39), Masters 2 (40-44), Masters 3 (45-49), Masters 4 (50-54), Masters 5 (55-59) and Masters 6 (60+). Anyone of any age can compete in the Open category if they want to.

Ages are calculated on 16 Aug 19 so please select your age category accordingly.

The Team Medley competition is open to teams of four (MMFF). Teams can be formed from any two males and two females - they do not have to come from the same affiliate/box/gym. There are no additional requirements for forming a team except to come together as a team to complete Qualifier #3 (see below).

For the Individual Medley there will be six qualifiers at a tempo of one per month starting in Jan 19.

For the Team Medley there will be three qualifiers at a tempo of one every two months starting in Jan 19. The Team Medley qualifiers will be Qualifier #1 (Individual), Qualifier #2 (Mixed Pairs) and Qualifier #3 (Team).

Qualifying tests will be designed to minimise disruption to affiliates/boxes/gyms and have a low administration overhead without losing credibility.

Qualifying tests will be announced one month in advance of the start of the qualifying period for that test. For example, the qualifying test for Qualifier #1 (Aerobic Capacity) will be announced on 1 Jan 19.

The final will be held at the University of Bath Sports Training Village over the period 16-18 Aug 19.

In the Individual Medley up to 356 athletes will progress from the qualifiers to the final.

This will be broken down as follows. For both men and women up to 48 athletes will progress from the Open age group and up to 16 athletes will progress from each of the other age groups.

In the Team Medley up to 36 teams will progress from the qualifiers to the final.
